Looking for professional ecological consultants, ecological surveys or mitigation solutions in London or elsewhere in the UK?
Ecological Sustainability Ltd have been established as ecological consultants since 1998 and specialise in ecological surveys, ecological mitigation and translocations of protected species from development sites. Our experience allows us to provide pragmatic, cost effective solutions whilst still strictly complying with relevant legislation and latest guidelines. Our surveys fulfil local council ecological requirements with regard to planning permission.
Services offered
Walkover survey, Phase 1 Survey and Extended Phase 1 Survey
These surveys assess the ecological value of a site, which is usually required before planning permission will be granted. Local councils increasingly require an ecological assessment of sites, even if they may appear to contain little of ecological value. Getting an initial survey can save delay later on. A small site with little of ecological interest might only need a simple walkover survey. For many sites an Extended Phase 1 Survey is required, this will show the habitats present on site and likelihood of protected species being present. It will also give recommendations for any further surveys should habitats that might support protected species be found. It would also include a search for existing records of protected species near the site. This is increasingly required as standard by local councils when planning permission is applied for. Sometimes a simple Phase 1 Survey is required, this will show the habitats present on site but does not give information on protected fauna that might be present.
Species Specific Surveys
We specialise in reptile and great crested newt surveys, but also through our associates can arrange competitively priced surveys for any other protected species such as water voles, dormice, bats and badgers.
Translocations
Protected species, such as reptiles or great crested newts are often found on proposed development sites. In this case, development cannot legally occur on site until they have been moved to a suitable alternative area. We can carry out reptile and great crested newt translocations, find suitable areas to move animals to and obtain any necessary licences.
Code for sustainable Homes and BREEAM
Some credits for the ecology sections of BREEAM and CFSH are only available following a site survey and report by a suitably qualified ecologist (SQE). We can supply a SQE to carry out this survey to advise on gaining credits and produce a report giving information required by the assessor.
