Wildlife Exclusion Fencing

UV protected newt and reptile fencing almost completed

A quality barrier is an important first step to any translocation, containment or exclusion of protected species. We offer a range of reptile and great crested newt fencing to cover all requirements. We also offer water vole fencing.  For all our fencing a trench is dug so that the bottom part of the fence is buried underground to prevent animals crawling underneath. For translocations of great crested newts we can also supply and install pitfall traps.

Reptile and Great Crested Newts (GCN) Fencing

Temporary/Drift Fencing – This is our most basic fencing useful for short term work and as internal drift fencing for GCN translocations. It consists of a single layer of UV stabilised plastic 1M tall held up by thin stakes approx 1M apart. The plastic is nailed to the stake and ripping is prevented by the use of spat washers. This fencing is not recommended for long term projects or for use in exposed areas as strong winds can damage this type of fence. Prices start from £9/M (Excl. VAT).

Underwired Fence – This is our most popular fence and is suitable for most projects except in areas of heavy animal traffic or prone to vandalism. A 2M sheet of UV stabilised plastic is folded to 1M and wire is run through the fold which is then stapled to half round posts every 1.6M. The plastic is then further nailed to the post and ripping is prevented by the use of spat washers. This results in a very strong fence which lasts for many years. We are so confident in the quality of this fence we offer a 5 year warranty* on the materials and construction. Prices start from £11/M (Excl. VAT).

Caudon® Permanent fencing – Suitable for permanent projects, areas of heavy animal traffic or areas prone to vandalism. This is a solid sheet of plastic screwed to a stake approx every 2.3M. This provides a permanent solution and has a 15 year UV warranty on the fence panels. Panels can be reused if undamaged. Prices start from £18/M (Excl. VAT).

Water Vole Fencing

Caudon® Permanent Water Vole fence is available. This must be installed 500mm below ground and 1M above. This is a solid sheet of plastic screwed to a stake approx every 2.3M. This provides a permanent solution and has a 15 year UV warranty on the fence panels. Panels can be reused if undamaged. Prices start from £20/M (Excl. VAT).

Pricing – The prices quoted are for areas with adequate access for a mini-digger and requiring minimal vegetation clearance. For areas with poor access, requiring vegetation clearance or hand digging the prices are likely to be higher. We can undertake a free site visit if required (mileage or travel expenses chargeable) to give a more accurate price.

Maintenance – We will provide free day to day fence maintenance if we are doing translocation or habitat manipulation work on site – even if its not our fence. This does not include plastic fencing which has begun to decay, fencing inadequate for purpose or major damage which we can quote for separately,

Recycling – We can remove and recycle our fence after the site work is complete. We charge our standard day rate for removal and cost price for recycling of the fence material. We use Bywaters for waste disposal which have a minimum fee for recycling material.
