Translocations

Where a survey has identified a population of a protected species is present on a site, usually the population would have to be moved (translocated) from the development area before works could take place. In the case of some species, such as great crested newts, a licence would be needed before this could take place. Ecological sustainability have a wealth of experience of carrying out translocations, particularly of reptiles and great crested newts. We have carried out many large scale translocation projects.  We can assist and carry out all stages of work involved in setting up, running and completing a translocation. This can include obtaining site licenses, locating receptor sites, erecting exclusion fencing, installing traps and refugia, trapping, carrying out habitat enhancements, creation and management , destructive searching and post-development monitoring. Using appropriate habitat management techniques and intensive trapping we are able to minimise delay when translocations involve large populations.
